So, are you ready for my first archistory? Here it is: today I will give you some tips and tricks on

how to prepare yourself to redecorate your room.

1. Don’t be afraid! People often say that redecorating can be a real disaster but it shouldn’t be that way. It can actually be fun or it can transform into a family activity. You just need to have the right approach, so go directly to step no

2. Keep organized no matter what! It may seem like a weird advice, but the truth is that often we get lost in so many chores that we forget what we had in mind in the first place. This is why in this precise moment you need to grab a pen and paper and start putting down your plan. Follow the next steps:

3. What kind of redecoration do you need? Do you have in mind concentrating on a single room or do you think of a bigger project? Do you plan on making small furniture/accessories changes or do you want to change the floors or paint the walls? These are all essential questions that you need to answer before starting the real deal. Otherwise, you risk confronting yourself with major changes during the redecoration process that might provoke a waste of energy, time and money.

4. Decide your minimal and maximal budget. Why not just the maximal? you would say. Truth is that few people really manage to organize their budget to the last cent. Most of them go way over the budget and there comes the panic. If instead you establish a minimal realistic budget, that you believe could be enough for your project, you start your plans having in mind a smaller amount of money. This will help you spend less. Decide also the maximal, in order to understand where you should really stop with any extra-expenses, so that you don’t end up with debts (nobody wants that, right?).

5. Make a list of the things you want to keep from your old room and the things you definitely don’t wanna see again. For some of you it might be difficult giving up at some objects, but remember that you’re doing it for a good cause: this is actually the first step to make order in your room and your life.

6. Write down maximum 3 colours that you would like to see in the future room. Then make a research online for all kinds of inspiration: do not search only rooms, interior design or architecture: just write the favourite colour or some words that inspire you and save the images that you love most in a dedicated folder.

7. What’s next? It’s time for you to decide whether you want to make this on your own or you prefer to talk to a designer first. There are people who just don’t like doing this kind of projects, it gives them headaches, while there are others who see it as a personal challenge. Who are you?

I would advise to consult an architect or a designer or to try an e-deco service if you prefer, since there are still some secrets of the job that could completely change the final result. I know it’s still hard to believe, but nowadays you can see an image of your room completely redecorated way before you even start the actual process and this can be a good reason to get in touch with a specialist. Add to this all of his/her knowledge regarding the colour theory, texture combinations, materials and space psychology, ideal dimensions for ergonomical purposes and so many other subjects…

However, if you decide to do it by yourself, that means you also have the patience and dedication to do it, so good luck with the project and you can send us a photo of the result if you want. We’d love to see it and you’ll receive free feedback from our community. But now let’s see what are the next steps.

8. Whatever option you have chosen, go back to your list and write down at least 5 of your favourite furniture retailers in your area or online shops that you prefer. If you also have in plan changing floors or painting walls, don’t forget to add them on the list.

9. Next, you need to start making the definitive choices: what products to buy. If you have decided to talk to an architect, this part will be easier, since they will make 2 or 3 “mood boards” considering everything that you have written before regarding your choices. A mood board is actually a draft of the pieces that will be included in the project, such as colors, materials, textures, pieces of furniture and decorations. As I already mentioned before, some architects or designers could also simulate the interior view of your room with the final choices, so that you can really fall in love with the result before buying the products. Watch this rendered image we created for a livingroom to see what I mean.

10. Now there’s only one thing left: it’s about time to go to bed and the night will serve you as the best advisor. I’ll come back soon with the next archistory!
