There’s been a while since I’ve become almost “obsessed” with small-space decorating. Why? I think the answer to that is pretty exciting actually: I’m about to move to a new apartment that might not be gigantic, but we have decided to make it feel like home and we’ve done our best to organize it as to include all the spaces that we need. So here I am sharing with you some of the most efficient ideas to include in your designs in order to find room for everything.
Disclosure: as an Amazon associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. However, I only include in my articles products that I bought myself or that I really trust could work perfect for your design, so enjoy! And remember: a well-organized space will help you get an organized life, so take some action now!
1. Start from the entrance!
No matter if you have an actual hallway or you enter directly into your livingroom, you might need a small corner for shoes and coats, unless you want to keep them all in the bedroom. Honestly, I’m not pretty much into taking all the coats to the bedroom, so I’ve chosen to include a small coat-hanger near the entrance door. I love minimal design, so I’ve opted for this one:

If you prefer something funnier, you can try these cute little guys that carry your coats and bags:

2. Mirror, mirror by the wall…
Remember to integrate the design of the entrance with a mirror that will not only be useful (anyone likes to look in the mirror before leaving house), but it will also make the room seem bigger. Take a look at this combination with the coat hanger mentioned before:

I personally prefer the vertical one, but I bet you’ll like the final result no matter which kind of mirror you choose.
3. Go to the open space!
The next biiiig problem we had to deal with was: where do we put a table? There’s no space for a traditional table inside the kitchen, otherwise nobody passes by anymore. So…what should we do? Well, we actually found many alternative solutions that I would like to share with you.
First, we can use a magnificent coffee table in the livingroom that transforms into a normal table for 6 or 8 persons. It sounds like the ideal solution if you have more space in the livingroom than in the kitchen. You can also use it when you have guests. However, I believe this is a better solution for those of you whom already have a tiny table in the kitchen for 2 or 3 persons and need a bigger table for the occasions. There are so many designs for this type of convertible table, but I prefer this one, since it gives an elegant touch to the room and also gives the possibility to give it the size you need:

4. Magic table!
The second option for the table would be that of using a small table by the wall. There are various DIY options for this if you are a handy person! However, this is a smaller table and you can use it either in the kitchen or in the livingroom. You can see here what I mean:

As you can see, it is a very practical table that doesn’t occupy space at all when you don’t use it, since it is folded near the wall, while when needed, it’s really easy to open by anyone. Furthermore, you could use the same system for the chairs. This way, you have a nice everyday table that magically “appears from the wall”.
5. High top table + folding table = SPACE!
A little different option can be put into practice if by any chance you have or plan on having a high top table. These are often used in bigger houses, but can also be there to divide open-spaces. If you’ve chosen something similar, imagine that under this high top table you can also put a normal, traditional one. How? Sounds a bit crazy, I know, but there are actually two solutions: the first is to make another table top under the high one (which is about 110 cm high) at the height of a traditional table (usually 75cm high), that you can open thanks to a pretty easy folding system. This way, you would actually have composed two tables, can you believe that?
The other option is that of putting a folding table that looks like simple drawers when folded, but gives you enough space for dining when open. This way, it looks like you have some simple drawers for your tall table, while instead you have a hidden low table as well. Either if you choose to put it under a tall table or simply by the wall, I’m pretty sure that you will be happy with the result, since it doesn’t occupy much space when closed, but makes for a real table when open.

6. Discover the Utility of Sofa-Beds
Up until now, I’ve mentioned kitchen and livingroom, but how about those really small spaces, where kitchen, livingroom, entrance and bedroom are all in one? Well, here you should get beyond creative! First of all, opt for a sofa-bed. Nowadays they are very comfortable and you can have a nice livingroom by day and a cosy bedroom by night in the same space. We have chosen something similar to this one and I can tell you it’s more than comfortable, since it hides a mattress. It’s not one of those sofas that open up and you feel the entire structure penetrating your bones. This is all about comfort! (and I bet we all want that).

7. Organize!
There it comes an extremely important aspect that most of us maybe forget or just don’t wanna think about it when we start designing our house: wardrobes and storage. We might often think “oh come on, how much space will I need to put these three things that I own?”. WRONG! Trust me! You will need tons of space! You will actually beg for more, especially when you decide growing your family (I will talk about children’s rooms in a future archistory, so keep in touch!). Organizing everything as well as you can seems to be at least part of the solution for this. I’m not really an expert when it comes to organization, but I can guarantee that sorting your objects into categories can do magic. For example, you put all your documents into a box, all of your writing tools into another, all of your child’s toys into another. It might seem difficult for some and absurd for others, but the truth is that after doing this, you will not find yourself into maniacal order, but you will definitely know where to go when searching for a document for instance. You don’t need to search for it in the entire house, but just into a small box named “Documents”. So here I am reccomending to you four objects that can be useful for this purpose and will not cost you an arm and a leg. Plus, applying this method, you will find space where you thought there wasn’t any.
First, check out these cute boxes for your drawer: simple and efficient design, don’t you think?

8. Shoe-boxes
Going on with the organization, you can choose to put either near the entrance or in the bedroom these nice shoe-boxes:

It’s easier to maintain all of your shoes in order, isn’t it? And it will definitely give you the sensation of more space, due to a proper organization.
The ideas nowadays for saving space are really countless, you just need to take a look online or offline and find out which fits you best. I found these great inspirations, but we are still to decide which table to use. What do you think? Which do you like most? I’m curious!
