Check-list of 4 to decorate your (small) outdoor space

Hello to you all! Hello summer! I think we all agree that the sunny season is here and it’s about time we spent more hours outdoors (especially after these months of lockdown). We all dream about a wonderful holiday and about how we could already enjoy at least part of it if only we could spend more time out…but then our thoughts go to the small terrace that can barely stand one person, since it is stuffed with all sorts of things. Well, that is a pity: it’s all about organization! You have the space, so why not use it for pleasure as well?

Therefore, I’m sure you’ll enjoy some tips on how to decorate your “outdoor space”. By that, I do not refer to a garden or a pool, but more to a small balcony or terrace that gives you the occasion to take a deep breath from time to time. However, if you are interested, in a future article we could also approach the pool/garden decoration.

1. So let’s see, where do we start? The first thing that should not lack from your outdoor space to feel more “outside” is green. You absolutely need to bring some plants in, that can be just decorative or you can think of making your own little oasis of spices such as mint, basil or rosemary. For this kind of choice, you only need a dedicated small corner, since they do not need much space to grow. Plants will make you feel closer to nature and I am pretty sure you will start enjoying this space more than you would have thought. Take a look here for more “green” ideas!

2. Now imagine a nice Italian breakfast outside. What do you need for that? Well, green is already there, you only need two folding chairs and a nice round table that would allow you and your loved one to enjoy mornings on the terrace. You might not believe it, but for that, you really don’t need that much space… Imagine that a table of 60 cm diameter (or even smaller) could fit perfectly even a small balcony. Nowadays the market is full of ideas from the economic ones to the more expensive. Don’t wait longer, now you can buy anything online with a click (and a credit card, of course 😂). I strongly advise the folding chairs, especially if you lack space, since they are actually very comfortable to be placed even in a hidden corner where they don’t stay in the way of anything and anyone.

3. Once you’ve solved these few things, you find yourself at a point that I personally love: decorations. Of course, you can also go minimal, but a few lively-colored cushions that can be easily cleaned, some nice candles (in case you want some romantic light in the evening) or some baskets that will also have a practical function to keep things in the same place, will all make your balcony feel cosy and welcoming. Please remember always to not over-do. Decorations make a place more “alive”, but if not used with caution, they can also become too much!

4. As a matter of fact, some of us cannot underestimate practicality (due to the lack of space), therefore I remind you of some things that could be added. You could create (or buy, as you wish), a small wardrobe that can go attached on the smallest wall and preferably having the same color. That way, it will give the impression that it’s a part of the structure and not something that comes to interrupt the neat space. Function is of fundamental importance, but I believe that beauty and function make a great team together 😉…

I hope that at least some of these ideas will be useful, however do not hesitate to ask questions if you need more specific advice by making a comment here or by sending an email. I will be happy to help! Also see here for more ideas 😉
