It has been a long time since I have written anything here and I’m really sorry for not being able to find the necessary “space” in this last period. Lots of things have changed and I am still trying to get everything reorganized (life issues, not design 😂). Even so, this seems to be a year of resolutions and as autumn begins with its colourful sceneries, I would like to share some ideas for bringing new colours into your house.
Changing decorations from time to time helps me get inspired and it gives new energy to the space, so this might be your case as well. Let’s start with some ideas for this season!
1.“Earthy” tones… there is a tendency that keeps growing in recent years towards the use of natural, earth-like colours for interior decorations to get closer to nature both psychologically, and from the point of view of sustainability issues. For example, you may or may have not heard yet of taupe, a very versatile earthy colour which goes well with various designs, from classic to modern ones. You should however be careful where do you place a colour like this to enhance its value: in fact, it is advisable to use them in spaces where light is present. In “darker” rooms, the effect might not be the best since they could provide a feeling of oppression. Here is an example of what you can do with earthy colours for accent furniture like this cozy and comfortable floor cushions. Take a look and share your opinions!
2. The “natural touch”…The use of natural materials, such as wood (especially if it is recycled), sisal fabric or any recycled or biological material that can provide rooms with an autumn vibe (in the good sense) and that prove to be attentive to nature are getting increased interest. Nowadays architects and designers are experiencing with biomaterials and “living materials” that go beyond the limits of our immagination and can even “grow” within your house. This is a great idea for updating your rooms this autumn especially if you are eco-friendly.
3. The “white touch”… white has always been helpful in completing interior projects with an elegant touch that seems to go well with everything. A white sofa or carpet can provide your space with just what you were searching for. Give it a try, you might be surprised!
4. The “black touch“…is another interesting, sometimes even “misterious” idea for your space. It might be a risky choice, but it’s effects could be surprising. As the other non-colour (white), also black can go well with any other colour, but it is important to not exagerate. Black pillows for your chairs, a black carpet or a lamp could provide your space with just the right atmosphere. I would not recomend it for walls or curtains since it might give the room a feeling of “enclosed space” and even if for the first period one could enjoy it, in the long turn it might become disturbing. Even so, if you are not yet convinced of daring with black, let’s try something different, like…
5. …a “touch of colour“, and by this I mean a colour able to give your space a new personality. A painted wall requires courage and I would not advise it if you think about not changing decorations for the next …5 to 10 years. Even so, a navy blue sofa or a terracotta-coloured chair, a carpet or a coloured wallpaper can solve this problem easily and it is certainly easier to change if you get tired of the colour or simply if you want to change the style of the room with the arrival of new seasons. Take a look at this lovely mural that I find amazing since its versatility makes it go well both for the nursery room and for the main bedroom or the livingroom.
6. Get “yellow-ish”! Now of course you might have already noted the tendency towards the use of yellow, orange, red, brown tones in the last period and this tendency grows as we enter the season of falling leaves. In fact, these are colours that remind the foliage and are able to transpose us into autumn forests with their warm-coloured falling leaves. However, these tones are very easy to bring into your house also through simple, low-cost decorations such as pillows, lamps, vases, or even paintings. They can also bring an artistic touch to your room like this beautiful ceramic vase that combines art and design with strong positive autumn vibes.
I hope you enjoyed the ideas and please share the results if you apply them in your house. You can do that in the comments of this article or by tagging the page on ig to your interior design photos.
